Paradoxically the smallest ship is the most important because it is the hardest to find as there is only a 2% chance of random fire hitting it. You have 5 ships with a length of 5, 4, 3, 3, and 2 – so 15% of squares will have a ship on them, meaning about 1 in 6 randomly fired missiles would hit a ship.
The playing field is a 10 by 10 grid, yielding 100 total squares. Once all of the grids for a particular ship have been shot, that ship is sunk.
